Digital SAT QAS Breakdown: May 2026 Test (5C) — English-Only, With a Verified Key
Last updated: September 2026 · By the AllSatPapers Content Team
Of May 2026's seven documents, 5C is the one students will reach for first — because it's the rare capture that grades itself. The file is 58 pages of Bluebook-style app screenshots, one question per page, covering Reading & Writing Modules 1 and 2 only (the "English Only" label on the file is accurate: there is no Math content). And at the back sits an answer-key table headed "Module1 正确答案" — "correct answers" — that our team spot-checked against the actual questions and found reliable.
May 2026, a quick orientation: two full re-typeset tests (5A and 5B) plus five English-only app captures (5C–5G). 5C's niche in that lineup is precision English training with a safety net — you solve, the file tells you if you were right.

What's Inside the 5C File?
| Test date | May 2026 digital administration (English-only capture) |
| Format | 58-page image-only PDF: landscape two-pane screenshots from a Bluebook-style test-prep app — passage left, stem and choices right, one question per page |
| Sections present | Reading & Writing Module 1 and Module 2 only (numbering restarts mid-file); no Math modules — the filename is accurate |
| Answer keys | Included key (spot-verified): a Chinese-headed table (题号 / 你的答案 / 正确答案) lists Module 1 answers 1A 2D 3D 4C 5A… — our spot-checks against the sampled questions all matched |
| UI tells | Black question-number chip in the center divider; "ABC" answer-choices icon top right; no choices marked on any question page |
Honesty note: like all seven May files, 5C is image-only — no text layer, so no parsed question counts or overlap percentages exist for it. The 58-page count is consistent with roughly 54 R&W questions plus key pages at one question per page, but we report page counts, not invented totals. Everything quoted below comes from our verified visual profile.
Sample Questions — With the Included Key
Reading & Writing, Module 1, Q1 — The Air-Register Vocab Opener
"Closing air registers in vacant rooms can actually reduce the ___ climate-control systems." Choices: efficiency of / need for / expense of / limitation on.
Included key: A ("efficiency of") — spot-verified correct. The passage logic is causal: closing registers forces systems to work harder, reducing how efficiently they run. Note the trap design: "expense of" and "need for" both sound plausible until you ask what a register physically does.

Reading & Writing, Module 1, Q2 — Lahiri's The Namesake
From Jhumpa Lahiri's 2003 novel: Gogol works at an architecture firm, and the question asks what the word "end" most nearly means as used in the text.
Included key: D ("Purpose") — spot-verified correct. Classic secondary-meaning vocabulary: "end" as in "to what end," not "ending." Literature-sourced vocab items like this one are a May 2026 signature — the same pool gives 5A's Frye item and 5B's Connell excerpt.
Reading & Writing, Module 1, Q14 — The Mimic Moths
Juliette J. Rubin and colleagues studied palatable calpine moths that emit ultrasonic pulses mimicking the warning signals of noxious dalcerid moths — deterring predators like Allen's big-eared bat. The task: complete the logical conclusion.
Included key: A — spot-verified correct, the Batesian-mimicry completion: harmless moths benefit because predators can't tell their signals from the dangerous species' signals. This is mid-to-late Module 1 density: a multi-step science passage where each choice sounds scientific and only one follows the logic chain. Keep this item in mind — it returns, in disguise, in the cross-form section below.

Reading & Writing, Module 2, Q2 — Caracol and the Mirador Basin
The Maya city of Caracol in Belize "was likely ___ of achievements attained in the lesser-known polities of the Mirador Basin." Choices: an antithesis / a replica / a beneficiary / an archetype.
Module 2 opens with vocabulary again but raises the abstraction level: all four choices are formal-register nouns, and the sentence's logic (Caracol inherited and built on earlier polities' achievements) points at beneficiary. Elsewhere in Module 2 our samples show dense data-interpretation work — including a Bronze Age item tracking the disappearance of gold artifacts in the Caucasus around 1500 BCE.

How 5C Fits the May Pool — and the Wider Archive
No overlap percentages here — 5C is image-only. But our visual profiles verified these links:
- 5C ↔ 5E — the shuffled sibling. May's 5E file runs the same question templates as 5C with surface details changed and choice order shuffled: 5C's moth item (calpine moths / Allen's big-eared bat / Rubin et al.) becomes 5E's version (a different hawkmoth species / the big brown bat / Barber et al.), and each file's included key matches its own letter arrangement. The lesson: learn stems, never letters.
- 5C ↔ the full sets. The English-only captures peel material from the same live pool as May's full tests — proven directly by 5D, whose Module 1 opens with two items verbatim-identical to 5A's. 5C's own pages are a different slice of that pool, with its key intact.
- 5C vs December 2025 12B. December's 12B was also an English-only document — but unkeyed. May 2026 raises the bar: 5C and its siblings ship with included keys, making this month the stronger English-training ground.
- 5C vs June 2026. June brings its own English-only captures (6F, 6G) alongside the fully parsed 6A — 147 questions with a complete inline answer key and both adaptive routes — and the 495-question 6H bank. If 5C is your keyed May workout, 6A is where you scale up with full math coverage restored.

Deep Analysis: What 5C Tests, Module by Module
Reading & Writing Module 1 — Vocab-Led, Science at Mid-Module
The sampled pages show the standard ramp: short single-paragraph vocab items up front (air registers; Lahiri), building to a dense multi-step science completion at Q14 (moth acoustics). One question per page means each screenshot gives you the full passage-and-choices layout exactly as a test-taker saw it — useful for practicing the real two-pane reading workflow.
Reading & Writing Module 2 — Abstraction Rises
The M2 samples keep the vocab-first opening (Caracol) but push into heavier territory quickly: our profile notes a dense archaeology data-interpretation item (the Caucasus gold-artifact dropout around 1500 BCE) sitting at Q15. That's standard mid-to-late module difficulty for May 2026.
Math — Not Included (and Why That's Fine)
5C contains no Math modules at all. That's not a defect — it's a targeting decision by whoever captured the file, and it suits English-focused prep perfectly: 58 pages of nothing but Reading & Writing, with a key, is a focused workout. Pair it with 5A or 5B for math coverage, or with June's 6A when you want a keyed full test.
Tips for Students Using 5C
- Hide the key before you start. The included key (spot-verified by our team) is only useful if you solve cold first. Cover the final pages, work the module timed, then grade.
- Learn stems, not letters. The same items appear in 5E with shuffled choices and a different key arrangement. If you memorized "Q1 = A," 5E will catch you. Memorize why "efficiency of" is right.
- On mimicry/evolution passages, diagram the relationship. Species A (palatable) → copies signal of → species B (noxious) → deters → predator C. Once the arrows are drawn, the completion writes itself.
- Use one-question-per-page to your advantage. Screenshot pacing mirrors Bluebook's — practice reading the passage pane fully before glancing at the choices, exactly as you'll do on test day.
- Cross-train with 5E. Solve 5C's moth item, then 5E's variant. Same skeleton, new species — the College Board's retune engine, and your best defense against it.
